Biggest upset? VCU, not Seahawks
By Mike Sando
The Seattle Seahawks are still in the running for an ESPY, but it won't be for 2010's biggest upset.
VCU's upset over Kansas in the NCAA Tournament prevailed over a field featuring Seattle's victory over New Orleans in the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs last season.
Seattle was 7-9 entering the game against the defending Super Bowl champs, but I can see why VCU's victory prevailed.
The NFL's relative parity diminishes the impact of virtually any upset. The Saints weren't a great team late last season. Traveling across the country to face Seattle at Qwest Field wasn't going to be easy.
Leon Washington's two kickoff returns against San Diego put him in the running for the NFL Strongest Performance award. Seems like Marshawn Lynch's 67-yard run against the Saints should win Best Play. That play was more memorable than the Seahawks' victory.
