Where should 49ers rank after going 5-1?
By Mike Sando
Back by popular demand -- OK, it was one guy on Facebook with a request -- comes another chance to discuss where the San Francisco 49ers should stand in ESPN's NFL Power Rankings.
We covered the subject after the 49ers blew out Tampa Bay, 48-3, last week. We'll do so again here after San Francisco claimed a 25-19 victory over Detroit, which had been ranked fourth in the rankings a week ago, when the 49ers were ninth.
Last week, I ranked the 49ers ninth behind Green Bay, New Orleans, New England, Detroit, Baltimore, San Diego, Pittsburgh and Buffalo, in that order. The 49ers ranked ninth in our rankings behind the same teams, albeit in slightly different order.
I'm inclined to move up the 49ers to No. 4 behind Green Bay, New England and Baltimore. New Orleans, ranked second, lost for the second time this season. The 4-1 Chargers were idle in Week 6, but that shouldn't prevent the 49ers from moving past them.
How high could you justify ranking the 49ers?
