Projecting NFC West at the 2012 midpoint

By Mike Sando

The Arizona Cardinals are 1-0 for the third consecutive season.

They're looking to go 2-0 for the first time since 2008 and the third time since moving to Arizona for the 1988 season. They'll have to beat the New England Patriots to do it.

"We've only played one game this year and we were in the same position last year and we dropped the next six," receiver Larry Fitzgerald told reporters covering the Patriots. "That's something that we talked about all this week, and attention to detail is something that we've really been stressing."

With the Cardinals' 1-6 start from 2011 in mind, a check of NFC West schedules shows which teams appear most vulnerable to a similar slide. My projected mid-point records, based on limited evidence collected through one game, would go like this: 7-1 for the San Francisco 49ers, 4-4 for the Cardinals, 3-5 for the Seahawks and 2-6 for the Rams.

Seattle is the only team in the division with five of its first eight games on the road. The San Francisco 49ers have four, while St. Louis and Arizona have three apiece. Seattle's home games are against Dallas, Green Bay and New England. For that reason, we could see the Seahawks fall behind, then rally late in the year.

Either that, or something entirely different.
