Reporting from Arizona, site of 49ers-Cards
By Mike Sando
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Greetings from University of Phoenix Stadium, an appropriate venue for "Monday Night Football" amid grave weather concerns elsewhere in the country.
The temperature outside the stadium is in the 80s. Skies are clear. The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals will be kicking off at 8:40 p.m. ET.
We'll have our usual in-game conversation going through the MNF chat (link to be posted as kickoff approaches).
I've posted below rare video footage. It shows 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith granting an interview. Smith generally avoids these media settings, but hey, it's Monday night. He spoke to the disciplined nature of the 49ers' defense.
Smith is often a dominant force even when he doesn't collect sacks. He did have a three-sack game against Arizona to close out the 2010 regular season. Smith had one sack in two games against Arizona last season. Any matchups he has against D'Anthony Batiste, the Cardinals' fill-in left tackle, figure to present favorable opportunities for him.
