Steven Jackson's future as deadline nears
By Mike Sando
The market for older running backs with higher salaries generally does not excite teams.
That is why Steve Jackson appears likely to remain with the St. Louis Rams past the trading deadline Thursday.
Coach Jeff Fisher told reporters Tuesday the team wasn't shopping Jackson, and that other teams weren't inquiring about the team's career rushing leader.
Keeping Jackson would be good and bad for the team. Good because Jackson has meant so much to the organization while putting together seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Bad because the team will have a harder time getting carries for rookies Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead, which needs to be a priority in the absence of a playoff push.
The latest "Blogger Blitz" video features related thoughts, including what, if anything, the team could get in return if Jackson opted out of his contract after the season.
