Sando's best guesses: Week 9 predictions
By Mike Sando
Don't tell this to those still trumpeting the NFC West-is-improved narrative, but teams from this division have gone 1-7 against non-division opponents over the past three weeks.
The bleeding figures to continue in Week 9 as the Arizona Cardinals take a four-game losing streak into Green Bay. The Seattle Seahawks face much better odds against the Minnesota Vikings at CenturyLink Field later in the day.
The 49ers and Rams are off this week after going 0-3 outside the NFC West over the past three weeks (0-1 49ers, 0-2 Rams).
Overall, the division has posted a 1-3 record in each of the past three weeks. This was fairly predictable given the opposition and the injury situations in Arizona and St. Louis. I've gone 6-0 on predictions over the past two weeks and 19-8 for the season. Let's see if we can up that to 21-8 through Week 9:
- Arizona Cardinals at Green Bay Packers, 1 p.m. ET: The Cardinals have not won a road game against the Packers since 1949, a span of seven games. They are averaging nine points per game during their losing streak, a league-low figure since Week 5. Sando's best guess: Packers 24, Cardinals 9
- Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks, 4:05 p.m. ET: Seattle hasn't lost at home this season. The Vikings, though 2-2 in their last four road games, have a 3-8 road record since 2011. Sando's best guess: Seahawks 21, Vikings 13
NFC West teams have reached the 2012 season's midpoint with a 17-15 combined record.
That includes 12-10 outside the division.
San Francisco, Seattle and Arizona are a combined 11-5 outside the NFC West. St. Louis has gone 1-5 outside the division.
Note: We've also got the "You called it" competition going, plus the Pigskin Pick'em group.
