Sculpting Kaepernick's HOF bust at halftime
By Mike Sando
SAN FRANCISCO -- The voice of reason isn't going to stand a chance unless San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick suffers a second-half implosion Monday night.
Kaepernick has revitalized the 49ers' offense while leading San Francisco to a 20-0 halftime lead against the Chicago Bears and their previously rugged defense. He has done it with his arm, not his legs, and that has been an revelation for the 49ers.
Kaepernick, making his first regular-season NFL start, has completed 12 of 15 passes for 184 yards. He has helped the 49ers rediscover Vernon Davis. He has thrown deep out patterns with authority. He threw one pass so hard, it injured Randy Moss' finger. At least we're left to presume that was how Moss injured his finger. It appeared that way.
Alex Smith will remain the 49ers' starting quarterback once he recovers from a concussion. At least I think he will. He will, right?
Let's revisit this one after the game. The voice of reason is calling. Should I answer?
