The latest on Justin Smith's arm injury
By Mike Sando
Justin Smith has not practiced with the San Francisco 49ers since suffering what the team called an elbow injury in Week 15.
There is apparently a very good reason for that: Smith has a partially torn triceps, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. More specifically, Smith has a "bone spur attached to his triceps tendon that became detached in his left elbow" and he could still play, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.
The 49ers, by listing Smith as questionable for their game against Seattle in Week 16, indicated he had a 50 percent chance of playing.
I'll pass along thoughts from ESPN injury expert Stephania Bell once I speak with her.
