New tight end: A look at 2012 production
By Mike Sando
Ian Rapoport's note about the Seattle Seahawks adding basketball player Darren Fells as a tight end invites a look at 2012 NFC West production when targeting the position.
Fells, whose brother Daniel plays for New England and once played for St. Louis, stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 280 pounds, according to Rapoport. There's no way to know whether Darren Fells projects as anything more than a project, but tight end is a position the Seahawks could stand to supplement, in my view.
The chart shows how NFC West teams fared when targeting tight ends. Arizona, like Seattle and St. Louis in 2011, failed to complete a touchdown pass to a tight end last season. The rest of the division combined for 19 of them in 2012.
Highlights included Lance Kendricks' 80-yard touchdown reception for the Rams and 100-yard games in the playoffs from San Francisco's Vernon Davis and Seattle's Zach Miller.
Darren Fells played basketball at UC Irvine and in Europe.
