I'm back from the NFL owners meeting in New Orleans and ready to jump into our weekly NFC West chat beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
The meetings provided an opportunity to meet new San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and spend more time with Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll than had previously been possible. It was good to catch up with Arizona's Ken Whisenhunt and St. Louis' Steve Spagnuolo.
I also saw and/or spoke with a list of NFC West executives including Rod Graves, Michael Bidwill, Jed York, Trent Baalke, Peter McLaughlin, John Schneider, Kevin Demoff and Billy Devaney.
The interviews and background conversations that take place during the meetings produce much more than the immediate blog entries that result. They help provide a better feel for situations and for the people making the decisions that affect NFC West teams. They also help build a rapport that pays off when I visit training camps and cover games.
I'll continue to break out new items based on some of the interviews. The time spent with Harbaugh was particularly helpful given that I'd never had a chance to speak with him or observe him in person previously.
