NFC West: You called it 19

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Forty-five of 116 entrants in the "You called it" for Week 19 picked the Cardinals to defeat the Panthers, but none hit the final score exactly.

Leeterry7 and whiteshark17 came closest, missing by nine points apiece. Both forecast a 31-20 victory for the Cardinals. SeattleCard (31-21), devilscards (31-21) and BilDrew (30-20) came within 10 points. Update: c6a27p90 came within two points with a 34-14 prediction in favor of the Cardinals; I had misread the prediction as being in favor of the Panthers. Apologies to c6a27p90, who pointed out the juxtaposition.

In honor of those who foresaw -- or hoped for -- an Arizona victory, I'll run the list of those who picked the Cardinals (including predicted score and differential):

We're still taking predictions as part of the "You called it" item heading into the Cardinals-Panthers divisional game Saturday. We'll keep taking them until kickoff. Simply click here and leave your predicted score in the comments section.

In the meantime, an update: Forty-seven of the first 73 people to leave predictions are taking the Panthers. The average predicted scores favor the Panthers by about 28-24.

I put together a downloadable tool that will let you monitor your standing on the fly. Simply fill in the actual score in the yellow boxes and watch the standings update automatically. I'll update this file right up until kickoff and make it available so you can see whether you'll be warranting a spot next to our legendary pickers on the Wall of Fame.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Generally we'll wait until late in the week before soliciting predicted scores and outcomes for games involving NFC West teams.

With the Cardinals heading to Carolina for a divisional playoff game Saturday, we want as many responses as possible, so here goes. This is your chance to appear even smarter than you already appear. Simply use the comments section of this item to make your prediction.

Anyone picking the Cardinals-Panthers winner correctly and hitting the final score correctly earns a spot on our Wall of Fame alongside our four current "You called it" honorees:

  • Elion245. Forecast the Redskins' 20-17 victory over the Seahawks in Week 12.
  • Leesters. Forecast the Bears' 27-3 victory over the Rams in Week 12.
  • habitat730. Forecast the Cardinals' 34-10 victory over the Rams in Week 14.
  • IamJonasJones. Forecast the Cardinals' 30-24 victory over the Falcons in a wild-card playoff game.

The fine print: Those submitting predictions for "You called it" must pick the winner correctly for their scores to be considered. Scoring is easy to calculate. The difference between a 20-17 prediction and a 31-14 outcome would be 14 points. We would calculate this by adding the difference between 20 and 31 to the difference between 17 and 14.
