Redskins executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato has finally committed to head coach Jim Zorn for the remainder of the season. Appearing on his weekly radio show on ESPN 980 in Washington, Cerrato said that Zorn would finish out the season, thus becoming one of the biggest lame-duck coaches in recent memory.

I can't see any scenario in which Zorn would return for the 2010 season. Even if the Skins somehow turn their season around, new playcaller Sherman Lewis would likely get a lot of the credit. I would expect owner Dan Snyder and Cerrato to have Zorn's replacement lined up before the season ends. After the '07 season, their search went on too long and that's how they ended up with Zorn.

Cerrato took the first 15 minutes of his show to defend Snyder (shocker) and suggest that the team was still "tight." Here's are portions of the transcript -- provided by Dan Steinberg of The Washington Post.

"The team is tight, the relationships are tight, and we're just trying to prepare to win a game Monday night and excite the fans and get the fans back excited about this football team," Cerrato said. "We just want to beat the Philadelphia Eagles Monday night. That's what we're trying to accomplish through all these other things that are going on, off-the-wall comments here, off-the-wall comments there. Everybody's frustrated. The owner's frustrated. He wants nothing more than to win for the fans. For the fans. He wants to please these fans, and he's so frustrated because of the struggles."
