A weekly examination of the Raiders' ESPN.com Power Ranking:

Preseason: 29 | Last Week: 26 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002

Having dropped four of their last five games to fall to 4-8 on the season, the Oakland Raiders have assured themselves of an 11th straight non-winning season. And having lost 12 straight games in the Eastern time zone by a combined score of 379-198, dating back to Dec. 6, 2009, the Raiders next travel to play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. And still, they insist the light at the end of the (Lincoln?) tunnel is not Geno Smith on a train. Rather (cue Jim Mora’s high-pitched, incredulous voice) ... Oakland remains two games out of a playoff spot.

“Look around and there’s not a lot of winning teams in the AFC,” receiver Rod Streater said Monday. “We’re still right there. If we can finish at .500, then we can see what we can pull off. We still have a good chance. We just have to finish.”

Stranger things have happened, right? For example, despite riding a two-game losing streak and blowing a 21-7 lead at the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, the Raiders actually rose a spot in our Power Rankings. Imagine where they’d be had they finished stronger against Indianapolis, Washington, the New York Giants and Tennessee.
