Reaching the Super Bowl and winning the big game is the ultimate goal of most NFL players. So, as you can imagine, it’s hard for competitive athletes to wish that type of success for someone on an opposing team.
However, when pressed on the next survey question for NFL Nation Confidential -- who is the active player not on your team you would like to see in the Super Bowl -- Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson topped the list with 59 votes. Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez came in a close second with 56 votes.
Several of the Chargers would have liked to vote for their own teammates in quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates -- both top performers in the league for several seasons, but with no Super Bowl appearance.
But forced to choose, San Diego players settled on another running back who reached that lofty goal this season, with three players voting for Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch. Two San Diego players voted for Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck.
