Comparing combines of Clowney, Jordan

Last year, the Miami Dolphins drafted the projected best defensive player in the draft: former Oregon defensive end Dion Jordan.

This year, perhaps the biggest hype train in recent memory is behind the projected best defensive player in the draft: South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

Since both play the same position, I figure this is a good time to compare the measurables and combine performances of Clowney and Jordan heading into their respective drafts.

For the sake of comparison, Clowney is nearly 20 pounds heavier than Jordan and still ran faster and jumped 5 inches higher in the vertical leap. Jordan is a terrific athlete. But Clowney is a rare kind of athlete who will be hard to pass up in May’s NFL draft.

Miami traded up and took Jordan with the No. 3 overall pick in 2013. Clowney is pushing to be the No. 1 overall pick of the Houston Texans. But Clowney will certainly go in the top five.
