Terrell Owens apparently was keeping his lip zipped about his dissatisfaction with Trent Edwards as the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback. Since Ryan Fitzpatrick assumed control two weeks ago, Owens has been singing his praises.
Owens"Obviously, with us having the record we were having, just say if he was out there throughout the year and doing that?" Owens said Tuesday. "He's putting us in the best position for the team to succeed."
Owens elaborated on why he has 14 receptions for 193 yards and two touchdowns the past two weeks after being on pace for his worst season through Week 10.
"There have been opportunities where I could have been doing that all throughout the year," Owens said. "If you’ve ever followed my career and you go back to the way I’ve been utilized in offenses, I was thrown to a number of times. I don’t know what that number is, but it was far more than what I’ve been accustomed to here in first half of the season.
"It’s just all about the experience there at the quarterback and [Fitzpatrick has] definitely allowed us to make some plays down the field. That’s all I ever wanted, and now we’re getting back to some of the things that I like to do."
Owens also said the Bills' decision to fire Dick Jauron and appoint defensive coordinator Perry Fewell interim head coach came "two weeks too late." Fewell has been a proponent of a downfield attack that didn't exist with Jauron and Edwards.
But there's another reason Owens has been enjoying a resurgence the past two games.
Owens hasn't dropped a pass since Fewell and Fitzpatrick took over.
ESPN Stats & Information tracks every play and found that through Week 10, which was Jauron's last as head coach and Edwards' last as starting quarterback, Owens led the NFL with nine drops and ranked second with a 15.8 drop percentage (drops divided by number of times targeted).
Since the changeover, ESPN Stats & Information hasn't recorded a single drop for Owens.
He went from averaging 2.9 receptions for 40.7 yards per game with one touchdown before the switches and 7.0 receptions and 146.5 yards with two touchdowns in the two games since. His touchdowns have been for a club-record 98 yards and 51 yards.
