No. 34: Bears 23, Packers 7 | Oct. 21, 1985
Let this be said about George Cumby: He was a willing competitor.
The Green Bay Packers' linebacker found himself between William "Refrigerator" Perry and the goal line twice, presumably wishing Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka and defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan would just get along.
Ditka was the main advocate for Chicago spending a first-round pick on Perry, but the gigantic defensive tackle out of Clemson found himself in the middle of a Ditka-Ryan feud that left him without consistent snaps the first two months of the 1985 season.
So Ditka put Perry in Chicago's short-yardage offensive package and directed him to hit a linebacker. The result was a 314-pound Perry delivering a crushing block on Cumby and Bears running back Walter Payton cruising into the end zone.
Later, Perry scored from the 1-yard line with ease, spiking the football and dancing for ABC's cameras. Perry capped off the humongous hat trick by creating another hole for Payton -- again through the 225-pound Cumby -- for his second touchdown.
Chicago finished with a decisive victory against Green Bay, and the nation was introduced to "The Fridge."
