ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs are scheduled to release an official depth chart today, their first of the season. Let’s not wait until then. Based off what I’ve seen throughout training camp and today’s practice, here is a two-deep depth chart that might be more accurate than the one the Chiefs will pass out. The Chiefs will, out of respect, occasionally have a veteran player listed ahead of a younger player when the younger player leads the competition.
We are not doing that here. Here goes:
Offensive notes: Running back De'Anthony Thomas and wide receivers Kyle Williams, Albert Wilson and Frankie Hammond Jr. aren’t listed but are getting a lot of snaps with the starters. Hemingway and Jenkins haven’t practiced recently because of hamstring injuries, but their backup spots appear safe as long as their absences aren’t extended.
Defensive notes: Cooper and Berry didn’t practice in full team drills today because of injuries, but should return soon. Chris Owens gets a lot of snaps as the nickel back.
