TAMPA, Fla. -- Vincent Jackson isn't the typical "diva" wide receiver.
Tampa Bay's No. 1 receiver doesn't talk a lot. When he does, it's an event and Sunday night was eventful. Jackson spoke to the media for the first time this camp and his answers make you wish he'd talk more often. The guy is a good quote.
Jackson's been having an excellent camp and it's obvious he has developed a strong chemistry with quarterback Josh McCown. That's no coincidence.
"I think a lot of it has to do with (McCown's) savviness on the field," Jackson said. "He's a very smart guy. He understands space and location and separation on routes and the way the dimensions of a defense work. We've spent a lot of time away from the facility, going to high schools and spending some time talking through some things and running some basic routes and getting a feel for each other. I think that relationship is only going to continue to grow."
Jackson also revealed he's not a big fan of the "Dunkaneers" nickname that's been placed on Tampa Bay's plus-side receiving corps.
"We want to be as dynamic as possible," Jackson said. "Everybody keeps talking about a basketball team out there, just throwing jump balls. We're going to be a lot more precise than that."
Jackson said he likes coordinator Jeff Tedford's offensive scheme.
"This is a little bit unique to me," Jackson said. "Doing the up tempo, switching the pace on the defense and dictating to the defense a little bit. I like it. It's a little fun. It changes the pace, the rhythm of the game and I think it's an advantage. It's a lot more popular now with offenses doing it around the league and I'm glad I get to be part of an offense that does that."
And the Bucs are happy to have Jackson as their top receiver.
"I don't know if I've talked about Vincent yet," coach Lovie Smith said. "You kind of take him for granted because he's just the ultimate pro. He goes out each day and does his job. He's having a great camp. He's made a lot of big plays. He's our (No.) 1 receiver and we've got to get the ball to him. In order for us to have success, Vincent has to have a great year. He's doing everything to get himself in a position to do that."
