RICHMOND, Va. -- A daily review of the hot topics coming out of New England Patriots training camp:
  • The Patriots and Redskins capped off their three-day stretch of joint practices with a light walk-through practice. Washington coach Jay Gruden said he expects his starters to play about 8-10 plays in the preseason opener for the teams Thursday night, and the educated guess is that the Patriots will follow a similar script.
  • Following the Wednesday morning practice in Richmond, the Patriots boarded their buses and headed about 120 miles north to FedEx Field, where Thursday's game will be held.
  • The left hand injury sustained by third-year defensive tackle Sealver Siliga was significant enough to have him sent back to Boston for more tests. Siliga obviously won't play in Thursday's preseason opener, and now the question is how long it might sideline him.
  • Undrafted tight ends Justin Jones and Asa Watson can expect a busy night in the preseason opener, as they are the only healthy players at the position after D.J. Williams was rolled up on in Tuesday's practice and was spotted Wednesday with a protective sleeve over his lower right leg.
  • The media spotlight shined brighter on backup quarterbacks Ryan Mallett and Jimmy Garoppolo, both of whom answered questions from reporters after practice. Mallett is expected to receive the majority of quarterback snaps Thursday night.
  • The Patriots announced that joint practices with the Eagles next Tuesday and Wednesday are scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. There will also be a Patriots-only practice on Monday at a time to be determined.
