No. 22: Panthers 24, Patriots 20 | Nov. 18, 2013
Making his second "Monday Night Football" start, Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton led one of the best drives of his pro career against the New England Patriots.
He took the Panthers 83 yards on 13 plays and hit Ted Ginn Jr. for a 25-yard score with 59 seconds remaining to give the Panthers a 24-20 lead. Against most teams, that would have been enough, but Patriots QB Tom Brady was ready and waiting on the other sideline.
What followed wasn't a typical Brady drive, though. He was just 3-of-10 when the Patriots had enough time for one more play at the Panthers' 18-yard line. Brady threw to his best option, tight end Rob Gronkowski, who got tied up with linebacker Luke Kuechly in the end zone. A flag for pass interference was thrown as the ball was intercepted by Robert Lester, who cut in front of Gronkowski and Kuechly. After a lengthy discussion, the referees ruled the ball was uncatchable by Gronkowski, and the flag was picked up.
This sealed the victory for the Panthers and led to an incredulous Brady chasing down the refs in the tunnel with some choice words.
