Patriots close deal with Wilfork

The New England Patriots locked up their most important free agent Friday afternoon.
WilforkESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss, citing an unnamed league source, reports the Patriots have signed nose tackle Vince Wilfork to a record five-year, $40 million deal.
ESPN's Adam Schefter adds the contract includes an $18 million signing bonus and another $7 million in guarantees.
Through his wife's Twitter account, Wilfork wrote to Patriots fans:
The Patriots placed the franchise tag on Wilfork last month, and the parties commenced to hammering out a long-term deal.
