Williams Wall resolution looming

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- We're situated here in the Lambeau Field press box. Everything is quiet on the field right now, so we just cast our gaze toward the television -- where ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported some important news for everyone in the NFC North.

The NFL will hear the appeals of Minnesota defensive tackles Pat Williams and Kevin Williams this week, Mortensen reported, suggesting there will be a resolution soon to their status for the rest of the season. Reportedly, both players have been suspended four games after testing positive to a banned diuretic.

There is no telling how quickly a decision could be made, but conceivably it could come soon enough to impact the Vikings' game next Sunday at Jacksonville. If the suspensions are upheld, the players would be eligible to return for the Vikings' Dec. 21 game against Atlanta.

This story has huge implications for the division. It's hard to imagine the Vikings' defense recovering from losing two of their biggest weapons, especially at a time when right end Jared Allen is playing with a severely sprained shoulder.
