ESPN.com is reporting Arizona quarterback Matt Leinart and Seattle receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh will be cut. The teams had been trying to trade both players. Both Leinart and Houshmandzadeh have been connected to the AFC West. Now that they are both officially available, let’s look how each player would fit in the division:

DENVER

Houshmandzadeh: The Broncos could use another receiver. I don’t think Houshmandzadeh if a perfect fit, but if neither the Broncos nor Houshmandzadeh find a better match, a pairing could be discussed.

Leinart: Unless Denver got rid of Brady Quinn in favor of Leinart, I don’t see this as much of a match.

Kansas City

Houshmandzadeh: He could give the Chiefs a spark. I’m not sure Kansas City would love Houshmandzadeh, but he could help this offense.

Leinart: He played for head coach Todd Haley in Arizona. If Haley decides he’d rather have Leinart than Brodie Croyle as his backup or if Leinart would agree to be the No. 3 in Kansas City, there could be some interest. Haley has been complimentary of Croyle, so the team may think they are set at quarterback. Perhaps Matt Cassel will push to reunite with the man he backed up at USC.

Oakland

Houshmandzadeh: I think this pairing could happen. Houshmandzadeh played for Oakland offensive coordinator Hue Jackson in Cincinnati. Houshmandzadeh also fills a need for a veteran receiver in Oakland. This one makes sense.

Leinart: The Raiders denied they had interest in trading for Leinart earlier in the week. He has some connections in Oakland, but unless Oakland decides it would rather have Leinart than Kyle Boller as the No. 3 quarterback, I don’t see it happening.

San Diego

Houshmandzadeh: It was reported that San Diego had an offer out to Seattle for Houshmandzadeh. It that was the case, Seattle likely would have taken it opposed to cutting Houshmandzadeh. Now that they have Patrick Crayton, the Chargers probably have no interest in Houshmandzadeh.

Leinart: Unless Leinart would be interested in being the No. 3, I don’t see a match. I’m not sure San Diego would even be interested in that situation.
