A look at a player who gave his team a significant boost in Week 6.

On a team stocked with defensive stars, one Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker is emerging before our eyes in 2010.

Lawrence Timmons, a former first-round pick, is developing the consistency the Steelers have been waiting for. He had his best game of the season Sunday in Pittsburgh's 28-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Timmons tied for the team lead with 11 tackles and added two sacks and an interception of Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy.

Timmons was drafted in 2007 as a converted outside linebacker. But because of the development of Pro Bowler LaMarr Woodley, Timmons had to learn a new position -- inside linebacker -- to get playing time in Pittsburgh.

The fourth-year pro went through plenty of growing pains as a full-time starter, but now things are starting to fall into place. Timmons leads the Steelers with 42 tackles and looks much more comfortable with his assignments in pass coverage and against the run.

There was never a question that Timmons was one of Pittsburgh's best pure athletes. But good coaching and the mental side of the game are catching up to Timmons' physical skills and it's paying dividends for the Steelers.
