A quick review of Tampa Bay’s 17-16 victory against Washington.

What it means: The Bucs are 8-5 and very much in the NFC playoff race. Let’s face it: You can almost say the Bucs are guaranteed 10 wins. They’ve got home games with Detroit and Seattle the next two weeks.

What I liked: People have been saying all year that the Bucs haven’t beaten anybody of consequence. There is some truth to that and the Redskins do not qualify as a good team. But when you go up to Washington and win in December, that’s a solid accomplishment, even if you need a botched extra-point attempt by the Redskins to finish it off.

What else I liked: Raheem Morris’ decision to go for a two-point conversion a little before Washington’s fiasco. The Bucs punched it in with Josh Freeman carrying a couple defenders into the end zone. Morris’ call looks even smarter in hindsight.

Rising star: Mike Williams has gotten the most attention among Tampa Bay’s rookie receivers this year. That’s justified because Williams has been outstanding. But fellow rookie Arrelious Benn had four catches for 122 yards.

What’s next: The Detroit Lions come to Raymond James Stadium next Sunday.
