TAMPA, Fla. -- For all those Tampa Bay fans who have been saying the Glazer family no longer cares about the Buccaneers because it's too busy with its English soccer team Manchester United, think again. The Glazers just blew $25 million out of the front door of One Buccaneer Place when they fired coach Jon Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen.
No matter what you want to say about the Glazers, they care -- deeply -- about the Buccaneers. And they're going to have to cough up several more million to get a new coach and general manager.
And it will be a new coach and general manager. I just finished talking with Bucs president Joel Glazer and he insisted the team will have a separate coach and general manager going forward. That would likely scratch Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher off the list of candidates.
Glazer said the Bucs will go through the process of finding replacements but you don't make a move like this without a plan. This is looking more and more like an inside job.
Again, nothing is confirmed, but indications are that Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is the lead candidate to be the head coach and personnel executive Mark Dominik seems to be the leader for the general manager job.
Sources already are telling ESPN's John Clayton that former New Orleans defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs already has agreed to a job with the Bucs, most likely as an assistant head coach.
Stay tuned. I'll have more as the night goes on.
