The purge in Cincinnati continues.

The Bengals released veteran defensive end Antwan Odom Friday, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The move comes one day after trading starting receiver Chad Ochocinco and losing No. 1 cornerback Johnathan Joseph in free agency.

Odom signed a big contract in free agency in 2008 but injuries prevented him from living up to that billing. With the emergence of second-year defensive end Carlos Dunlap, Odom became expendable.

Cincinnati at this point is more interested in getting rid of players than adding players. With a wealth of cap space at its disposal, the Bengals could afford to be more aggressive in free agency while good talent remains available.
