Kurt Warner summed up his thoughts about free agency during a conversation with Trey Wingo and Mark Schlereth on ESPN's "NFL Live."

A few highlights:

  • Wingo suggested another NFC West team might have interest in him. Warner smiled and chuckled during his response: "I've got no comment on anything else. All I know is we are trying to work some things out with the Cardinals."
  • Warner has no plans to make free-agent visits in the short term because he's hoping his agent can work out a deal with the Cardinals.
  • If the sides cannot reach a deal in the near future, Warner would consider his options, which could include playing for another team or retiring. Warner: "I'm not saying I would retire if it doesn't work out with the Cardinals. I would obviously open myself to any opportunities" elsewhere.
  • Warner feels as though he played "under market value" in recent seasons and he wants to be "compensated fairly" while also making sure "it works for the team to keep this thing together."
Warner seemed relaxed and comfortable with whatever happens next. He expressed no anger or frustration with the Cardinals. He did not threaten to sign with another team. As for that other NFC West team? Wingo had to be referring to the 49ers based on how much money the other division teams have invested in quarterbacks. Even that seems unlikely given what the 49ers plan to do on offense.
