Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month, becoming the first Cincinnati player to win this offensive award in 14 years.
In leading the Bengals to a 4-0 record this month, Dalton became the first Cincinnati rookie quarterback to guide his team to four straight wins. Two of the victories were fourth-quarterback comebacks.
“The leadership Andy has brought as a rookie is remarkable,” said Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth. “The kid shows gumption. He’s in our face. It takes a lot for a rookie to do that.”
Dalton was selected in the second round and was the fifth quarterback selected behind Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder. He passed for an average of 227.3 yards last month, throwing six touchdowns and five interceptions.
