EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- I'm keeping track of the early games from the MetLife Stadium press box, and I'm presuming you've seen the alarming turn of events for Chicago Bears tailback Matt Forte. Last I checked, Forte was having his right knee examined by Bears medical officials in the first quarter of a scoreless game.
It doesn't take much analysis to realize what a loss of Forte -- for any amount of time -- would mean. The Bears are already without quarterback Jay Cutler, possibly for the rest of the season. And backup Caleb Hanie isn't exactly lighting it up today at Soldier Field.
On another level, we all know Forte has turned down the Bears' offer for a contract extension and is playing out the final year of his rookie deal. You can figure out how a knee injury might impact that.
Forte is now headed for the locker room and has been declared out for the game. It's Marion Barber or bust for the Bears right now.
