Morning take: Marvel on his way out of Pittsburgh?

Here are the most interesting stories this morning in the AFC North:
- Scott Browns of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes left tackle Marvel Smith likely is playing his last year with the Steelers.
Morning take: After signing free-agent center Justin Hartwig and giving Max Starks the transition tag, the Steelers don't want to tie up any additional money in their offensive line until they see how this much-maligned unit performs in 2008.
- Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com writes Chris Perry would be the starting tailback if the season started today.
Morning take: Perry has been impressive this summer and Rudi Johnson has been hurt. Still, counting on Perry to produce over the long haul is always a risky proposition.
- On Wednesday the Baltimore Ravens named Troy Smith the starting quarterback for Saturday's third preseason game against the St. Louis Rams.
Morning take: It is now obvious Baltimore's coaching staff wants to see Smith win this job. We will provide more insight to this quarterback race later today.
- Five Cleveland Browns, including Derek Anderson (concussion), Jamal Lewis (hamstring) and Braylon Edwards (foot), are expected to sit out of this weekend's preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
Morning take: A majority of Cleveland's offensive firepower likely will miss the final two exhibition games. So it's time for the Browns to simply go into survival mode and focus on getting out of the preseason healthy.
