Cedric Benson, a 1,000-yard rusher for the Bengals for the past three seasons, has signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Benson
As Bengals fans can attest to, Benson is consistent although not spectacular. He'll give the Packers an experienced back who can be counted on to grind out 1,000 yards. What he won't give Green Bay is a lot of big plays (he averaged less than 4 yards per carry the past two seasons) and a presence in the red zone (19 touchdowns over the past three).

The Bengals decided to move on from Benson months ago, when they signed BenJarvus Green-Ellis in free agency. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has been very impressed with Green-Ellis in training camp, noting that he's a disciplined runner and an asset in pass protection.

While the Bengals believe they have upgraded themselves at running back, Benson certainly did well for himself, too. After drawing little interest over the past five months (the Raiders were once a potential landing spot), Benson has caught on with one of the Super Bowl favorites. This parting of the ways has become a win-win for the Bengals and Benson.
