The following is three things to watch in Oakland’s home preseason game against Detroit on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET:
1. Find an offensive rhythm: The Raiders’ offense has been slow to develop in the first half of the preseason. With the starters slated to play more than half of this game, it’s time for Oakland to start clicking. Quarterback Carson Palmer needs to play better.
2. Contain Lions’ strong offense: Oakland’s defense has looked good in several aspects of the game so far; it will get quite a test against the Lions. If Oakland passes this challenge, it should head to the regular season feeling pretty good about itself.
3. Continue to play with discipline: Oakland has committed just nine penalties in the preseason -- let’s see the improvement continues. If the Raiders, who set an NFL record for penalties and penalty yardage in 2011, improve in this area, it could welll result in a couple of more victories.
