LANDOVER, Md. -- All set up and running here in the press box for the Washington Redskins' home opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Noted Slayer fan John Clayton is seated directly to my right. The news:
As expected, wide receiver Pierre Garcon is inactive for the Redskins for the second week in a row due to the foot injury he suffered in the season opener in New Orleans. It's a bad loss for Washington, as the offense is based in part around Garcon's big-play ability after the catch. Second-year wide receiver Leonard Hankerson will start in his place, likely because the coaches see him as the best bet to replace that ability Garcon has to catch the ball on a slant and take it to the end zone.
Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather is inactive for the third game in a row with the knee injury he suffered in the final week of the preseason. At the time, the Redskins said Meriweather would miss two to four weeks, so if that timetable holds he could be back next week or the week after.
For the Bengals, cornerback Leon Hall is inactive, which is a serious blow to an already banged-up secondary that's also without first-round draft pick Dre Kirkpatrick. That should open things up in the back end of the Cincinnati defense for Robert Griffin III to find Hankerson, Josh Morgan, Santana Moss and his other wide receivers.
I'll be here all game, and I hope you'll join us for our Countdown Live chat, which starts at 1 p.m. ET. Here's the full list of inactives for this game:
QB Rex Grossman
S Brandon Meriweather
WR Pierre Garcon
