Absence won't affect Richardson's status

Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson missed practice Friday to be with his girlfriend during the birth of his third child. But Browns fans and fantasy football owners don't have to sweat whether he'll play Sunday at the Giants.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur said Richardson will travel with the team and play in Sunday's game. If the Browns attack the Giants as expected, Richardson should have one of his busiest days of the season.

Richardson is coming off of a 14-carry game against the Ravens, who rank third in the NFL, allowing 3.2 yards per carry. The Browns should give the ball to Richardson more on Sunday, when they play a marginal run defense. The Giants are the seventh-worst run defense in terms of yards per carry (4.5).

He could have some sleepless nights in the future with a new baby, but Richardson should be well-rested heading into Sunday's game. His 64 carries is tied for 15th in the NFL, and Richardson hasn't taken a hit since last Thursday's game in Baltimore.

There has been quite a baby boom in the AFC North this season. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco had a son in June, and Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is expecting to be a father sometime during the season.
