Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, who left Sunday's loss to the Falcons with a concussion, was a full participant in practice Friday but is officially listed as questionable on the team's injury report for this Sunday's game against the Vikings. The reason for the designation is that the NFL's concussion policy requires Griffin to pass a few more tests in the coming days before he can be officially cleared to return to game action. Currently, the Redskins say, Griffin has no concussion symptoms. But sometimes symptoms do recur, and the rules say they have to make sure that doesn't happen if they want to put him in a game.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Griffin would play as long as there were no setbacks between now and Sunday.
"That's what we have doctors for. Doctors make those decisions, we don't," Shanahan said, according to a transcript released by the team. "If Robert feels like he's fine, he's had no side effects, he wants to play, he feels good to play … If Robert were to say, 'Hey, you know what? I have a headache,' of course we would do that. That's why we run all these tests. But why would you not let somebody play if he's felt good right at the end of the game [and] every day until now? But if he has these tests after practice today and all of sudden he's not feeling good or something's wrong, obviously we're not going to take the chance."
Meanwhile, Griffin's top wide receiver, Pierre Garcon, showed up on the injury report for the first time all week as questionable due to his ongoing foot injury. Garcon injured his foot in the season opener, missed Weeks 2 and 3 and has played the last two games but has clearly been limited. He practiced all week but was limited Friday, and it sounds as though something has flared up that could keep him out Sunday.
"Wednesday he had full practice and yesterday he had full practice," Shanahan said. "Today, he's questionable."
So even if Griffin does play, he could be without his top weapon Sunday against the 4-1 Vikings.
