Tampa Bay defensive end Da'Quan Bowers practiced for the first time this season on Wednesday, but don’t count on seeing him on the field Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

“I don’t think so,’’ coach Greg Schiano told the media after practice. “There’s a chance, but that wouldn’t be what we want to do with this.’’

Bowers had been on the physically unable to perform list after tearing his Achilles tendon in an offseason workout in May. The Bucs now have a three-week window to decide if they want to activate Bowers this season.

Schiano sounded like the Bucs will proceed cautiously with the second-year defensive end and the team could take advantage of something close to the full window. Schiano said Bowers looked good in what he did Wednesday, but still has a lot of work to do as far as getting into football shape.

“I’m hopeful that somewhere in this window he can help us and for the rest of the year he’s going to help us,’’ Schiano said.
