Brutal mistake from Christian Ponder
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Minnesota Vikings still have the lead here at Lambeau Field midway through the third quarter. But they're no doubt kicking themselves that it isn't larger.
Quarterback Christian Ponder threw an inexcusable interception in the end zone, squandering a chance to at least extend the Vikings' lead to seven points, and the Green Bay Packers used the ensuing possession to pull within one point at 14-13 with seven minutes, 47 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Vikings had a second down on the Packers' eight-yard line after Adrian Peterson's 48 yard run. Ponder rolled outside of the pocket looking for receiver Michael Jenkins, who was covered by safety Morgan Burnett. Instead of throwing it away or running for a few yards, Ponder threw across his body to Jenkins anyway for the easiest interception of Burnett's life.
At this point, Ponder has thrown for 36 yards on 5-of-9 passing.
The Packers then drove 51 yards in12 plays before kicker Mason Crosby drilled a 47-yard field goal to make it 14-13. And here we go …
