Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis has doubled his salary for 2013.
By staying on the 53-man roster all this season, Davis has hit a $1 million escalator clause in his contract, according to a league source.
Davis had been scheduled to earn $1 million in base salary in 2013, but that number now jumps to $2 million.
As Davis was returning from his third torn ACL, the Panthers restructured his contract to give themselves some protection against another injury. But they also included the incentive that would benefit Davis if he stayed healthy.
The only negative here is that Carolina now has $136 million committed toward a 2013 salary cap that is expected to be slightly more than $120 million.
