2012 Receiving Comparison
Harvin's trade from Minnesota to Seattle has been big news for hours.
Boldin recently played a leading role in defeating the 49ers in the Super Bowl.
Boldin will now face his original NFL team, Arizona, twice each season.
Boldin gives the 49ers a big, strong receiver to spice up the team's hotly contested matchups against division-rival Seattle's super-sized cornerbacks (this after coach Jim Harbaugh complained about overly aggressive tactics from Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner).
The 49ers had a league-high 12 draft choices after agreeing to trade Alex Smith. The team figures to land additional compensatory selections offsetting 2012 free-agent losses.
In other words, the 49ers had plenty of ammunition to make this move. One question is whether they'll assume all of the $6 million salary Boldin was scheduled to earn from Baltimore.
Boldin, 32, gives the 49ers two strong, physical receivers. Michael Crabtree is the other. The chart compares their stats last season.
Boldin gives the 49ers some insurance as they bring along 2012 first-round pick A.J. Jenkins, who did not factor into the offense last season.
It's fun to see the two best NFC West teams from last season making high-profile moves. Lots to talk about around here, for sure.
