The NFL draft is not even 24 hours old, so, of course, that means one thing -- it’s time for Mel Kiper Jr.’s draft grades. His annual post-draft grades are here, in an Insider piece.
As I expected, he gave good grades to all four AFC West teams, with the San Diego Chargers coming out on top. But fans of all four teams will be happy to see that Kiper Jr. has good things to say about each class. I agree. I thought all four teams in the division did nice work over the weekend.
Here is a look at Kiper Jr.’s thoughts:
A Mel nugget: Sylvester Williams was one of the better values of the first round. I could have seen him go as high as No. 14 to Carolina, and Denver got him all the way down at No. 28.
A Mel nugget: I don't think this team has the personnel issues of most teams picking at No. 1, and it showed. Remember, they also got Alex Smith, a proven starting NFL QB, with their second-round pick.
A Mel nugget: Sio Moore is a guy I liked all the way up to the end of Round 1, so at No. 66 overall he's a good get
San Diego Chargers
A Mel nugget: Manti Te'o fills an immediate need at linebacker, and I don't think San Diego could have expected to get this kind of a player at No. 38 overall. He will step in and start immediately.
