A few days before his debut as an NFL head coach, Rex Ryan said he would "speak from the heart" and "not holding anything back."

Whatever he said, it obviously worked. The Jets beat the Texans 24-7 in stunning fashion at Reliant Stadium.

A reporter asked Jets nose tackle Kris Jenkins after the game to describe what Ryan said to them before they took the field.

"Honestly, it is hard to kind of put it into words," Jenkins said. "But we have come to the conclusion that we need to call the NFLPA and put him on the banned substances list."

Winning in Week 1 always is important, but it's even more critical to a rookie head coach who's trying to establish credibility within the locker room.

Throughout training camp and the preseason, players were confident in the system, but actually seeing it work the way it did Sunday is monumental to developing a team's identity.

"You could just tell by the excitement that a lot of guys believe in the system," Jenkins said. "We really think this is going to be a structured year for us. We are just trying to make sure that we do our best to keep this coach around."
