D.C. police spokesman Araz Alali says Lefeged, who is entering his third NFL season, was a passenger in a car that fled from police after a traffic stop for speeding early Saturday morning.
Police say they found a handgun in the car that authorities believe belonged to Lefeged.
Lefeged and another passenger face charges including carrying a pistol without a license and possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition. Alali says the car's driver fled.
The Colts issued this statement:
We are aware of the reports regarding Joe Lefeged in Washington, D.C. At this time, we will have no further comment on the pending matter until we gain more information.
