NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Week 1’s weak statement was washed away by the tremendous effort the Houston Texans brought to LP Field Sunday.
Wonder about their toughness? There was no sign of backing down for a team that trailed by two touchdowns and could have said, "Here we go again" against a team that’s unquestionably one of the league’s most physical.
Instead Gary Kubiak’s guys fought back for an impressive 34-31 win and got to 1-1, dropping the Titans to 0-2 and doing a lot to make the divisional competition between the old team from Houston and the new one an increasingly heated rivalry.
The Texans have won two in a row in the series now. Turnovers were not an issue, as they took it away twice and didn’t give it away at all. Matt Schaub threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns.
The winless Titans have some serious questions in pass defense to sort out. In a secondary where three of four starters went to the Pro Bowl last year, there are too many plays with confusion and too many big completions no matter the degree of pass pressure.
Houston wanted badly to make this a three-team division. It’s going to be one at least for a while because of this game -- provided the Titans can recover to contend.
