A weekly examination of the Rams’ spot in the ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Whether you choose to look at them as the first power rankings of the new season or the last of the offseason, we'll have far more evidence to go on next week at this time, after actual games have been played. For now, the Rams check in at No. 15 on the weekly ESPN Power Rankings.
Considering the Rams finished last year 7-8-1 and were right at No. 16 in the NFL draft order, the small bump up to No. 15 feels about right going into the season. The Rams still have plenty to prove, and how high they can move this year will largely be centered on the performance of quarterback Sam Bradford and a new-look offense.
In looking around the rankings, it's obvious to see why many believe it will be a tough road for the Rams this year. NFC West division foes Seattle and San Francisco are Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, in the first edition of the rankings. That makes the opener this week against Arizona (No. 26) all the more important. Taking care of business at home against a team expected to finish below the Rams in the standings is imperative.
