The first time Casey Hayward pulled his hamstring, he missed nearly a month. So it should not have come as a surprise that the Green Bay Packers cornerback was ruled out of Sunday’s season opener at San Francisco.

Hayward reinjured the hamstring Aug. 23 in a preseason game against Seattle. He had missed the first half of training camp because of the injury he initially sustained while working out on his own before he reported for camp.

“I don’t really have a timeline for Casey,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after Wednesday’s practice. “I hope his status is different next week. When you talk to Casey, he says he’s great and making progress, but he will not be available this week.”

The Packers likely will play rookie Micah Hyde in Hayward’s spot as the slot cornerback in their nickel defensive package.

The only other player listed on the team's injury report was special-teams ace Jarrett Bush, who was limited because of an ankle injury. Bush missed the preseason finale at Kansas City.
