EARTH CITY, Mo. -- According to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport, St. Louis Rams right tackle Rodger Saffold suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee on Sunday against Atlanta.

Rapoport went on to say that Saffold's status is week-to-week and no surgery would be required, but Saffold is "almost certainly" not going to be available against the Cowboys this week.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Monday that Saffold was day-to-day and more information would be made available Wednesday, presumably by way of the week's initial injury report.

There have been plenty of indications in the past 48 hours that Saffold is going to at least miss some time with the knee injury. He left the locker room on crutches after the game and the Rams claimed offensive tackle Mike Person off waivers from Seattle on Monday afternoon.

As it stands, Joe Barksdale is the likely replacement for Saffold should he be unable to play against Dallas this week, and the Rams have been taking steps to ensure more reinforcements are on hand in case the need arises.

Injury issues have been an ongoing problem for Saffold, who has missed 13 games in the past two seasons. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and though he's performed well when healthy, the "when healthy" disclaimer has too often been a part of the discussion.
