SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- A deep roster has caused the San Francisco 49ers to shed a player who has been helping on special teams.
The 49ers cut linebacker Nate Stupar on Saturday. He had been performing well on special teams. But the 49ers have several players returning from various injury lists. Receiver Mario Manningham and cornerback Eric Wright will be returning Monday or Tuesday. Stupar was deemed expendable because the 49ers are deep on special teams and at linebacker.
The 49ers will very likely sign Stupar to the practice squad if he is not claimed by Monday.
