Ed Reed to start at safety
By Rich Cimini
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Well, that didn't take long.
Despite only two practices with the New York Jets, newly-signed safety Ed Reed will start Sunday against the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium. He will play alongside former Baltimore Ravens teammate Dawan Landry, replacing Antonio Allen in the lineup.
On Thursday, Rex Ryan indicated Reed likely would play in a reserve role. So much for that. Reed, 35, cut last Tuesday by the Houston Texans, has familiarity with Ryan's defense from their days together in Baltimore.
For those interested, Reed will wear No. 22, not his usual No. 20. Kyle Wilson apparently refused to relinquish it.
As expected, injured wide receiver Jeremy Kerley (elbow) is inactive for the game. The other inactive players are quarterback David Garrard, running back Alex Green, linebacker Garrett McIntyre, guard Will Campbell, tackle Ben Ijalana and tackle Oday Aboushi.
The Bills will be without receivers, Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods, both of whom are inactive. Marquise Goodwin will start for Johnson. Their other inactive players are quarterback Jeff Tuel, cornerback Justin Rogers, running back Ronnie Wingo, defensive back Brandon Smith and guard Antoine McClain.
